This is a demo of the sign-in and wedding books I offer. These aren't your typical photo books that can be purchased online from cheap manufacturers. I put my books together myself, starting with using fine quality paper, printing the images on my own printer (this ensures that the colors of the images will match with the way I intended them to look), and using a local manufacturer for the sewn binding.

Features:

8x10 size:I have found that 8x10 is the perfect size to display my work. The size is similar to a high fashion magazine, and creates a professional and sophisticated look

Dust jacket:The books come with a matte, sturdy dust jacket with a vertical picture of your choice on the cover, surrounded by a white border. Beneath the dust jacket, the book has a grey fabric cover with the couple's name foil stamped on the cover. The book looks great with and without the dust jacket.

High quality matte paper:The paper is an extremely important part of this book. The paper has a matte texture and is high-quality and stands out amongst the cheap paper found in most photo books.

High quality sewn binding:Most photo books are "perfect bound", which means they are essentially glued together. My books are sewn together for durability by a local binder.

Magazine-style layouts:I create the layouts for my books individually. This means I take time to place the images in the perfect sizes and places within the book. The layouts are designed to resemble high-fashion magazines, to create a modern and professional look.

High number of edited images per book:The sign-in books include about 30-35 edited engagements, and 30-35 edited bridals of your choice. Guests may sign in the blank space on the pages, or the book may just be used for viewing purposes at the wedding. The wedding books include up to 100 edited wedding images of your choice.

Mikey and Brady LOVE camping, so we went with a fall camping theme for the engagements. We decided to make it a breakfast camping trip because they looove breakfast. Shooting with this couple was a blast, I can't wait for their bridals!
Here is Brady's recollection of how they fell in love...
I saw Mikey for the first time when we were sophomores in high school. We both sang in the school choir and I remember distinctly picking her out of the girls choir and couldnt take my eyes off her. I didnt know what it was about her, but I knew she was different. We became best friends throughout high school, performing in musicals together, traveling on school trips to California and New York and had the greatest of times. We understood each other so well, and could always make each other laugh. After high school we both decided to go to Utah State. We stayed close, however didnt spend as much time together in college as we did in high school . After freshman year I left to serve an LDS mission in the Philippines and she kept attending school. While I was gone she studied abroad in Norway, falling love with the outdoors and amazing scenery there. We got back in contact after I returned and then she left for her own LDS mission to Russia. I studied art and architectureabroad in Europe while she was gone and got the travel bug bad. When she came home this last March was thrilled to see her, but didnt think much beyond that. I had an internship in Los Angeles for a design firm and a couple weeks before I left she called me up; wanting to see me before I left. Not even thinking it was a date, we began the greatest evening I've ever had. Thai food, ice cream and sitting on the hill of the Capital in Salt Lake was apparently a recipe for greatness. Something about the timing clicked. We shared our first kiss on that date, and I never look anywhere else after that. I dropped her off at her house, and drove home; knowing in my heart I was going to marry her. I flew home in June for a family vacation to some cabins in West Yellowstone and Mikey came along. On the drive home her and I drove alone through the Park, talking about life, music, traveling and our love for nature. A few months later when I returned from LA, she left for Brazil (where she bought the gorgeous hammock) for a month with her sister. It wasnt until she was to Brazil that I realized how much I was falling in love with her; so two months later, with both of us back at Utah State, I asked her to marry me. Falling in love with someone who was already my best friend was the greatest thing in the world.

People keep asking me where MY wedding photos are (I got married on June 3rd). The truth is, with working 12 hour week days + weekends to barely be able to keep up with all of my client's weddings, the last thing I want to do during any spare time is more editing. But as November approaches, things will be getting much better! November, December, and January aren't the most popular wedding months so I usually find I get a little bit of a breather. Here's a couple of shots from the day!

This beautiful girl has been a supporter of my photographer for quite a while! I was really excited to finally be able to work with her. This was sort of a model/mother-daughter birthday session. Michelle says she's not a model but she totally is! She was so natural and fun in front of the camera, I really had a blast working with her! It is Michelle and Ellie's birthday month so they decide to incorporate balloons and a cake. The beautiful cake was made by Annie Biegler. I loved the fading effect on the inside of the cake!

Reception Center Recommendations

I am writing this post to tell my clients how to get the best out of their wedding day photos. Particularly, I would like to focus on reception center choices. You have probably seen some beautiful weddings on my blog. If you want your wedding to turn out just as beautiful, I recommend taking the advice below.

The details of your reception could be as beautiful as possible, but if the reception location is not beautiful, then I can only do so much to make the photos turn out. There are a couple of things to look for when choosing a location. Lighting and background are the most important to me. I strongly recommend choosing an outdoor location, but this is not always possible. So, below is advice on indoor locations.

Indoor locations:

Lighting: When choosing an indoor location, seriously consider the lighting. Any location that is dark will cause issues for the pictures. Natural lighting is ideal—choose a location that lets in as much natural light as possible. If it doesn’t let in very much natural light, consider hanging bistro lights. When a location is dark, it makes it very difficult for me to get good detail shots, candid shots, and group shots.

Backdrop: When choosing an indoor location, seriously consider the backdrop. I do not recommend choosing locations that have hosue-like walsl. Tan colored walls is something I see a lot and it really is not a very good backdrop—it looks like your reception is at your house, and it reflects the lighting in a strange way. I see these types of walls in restaurants and golf courses a lot. I can only do so much to correct something like this. When picking a location, look at the walls because they will be the backdrop to my photos.

Some great places for indoor photos are below.

Greenhouses (La Caille, Red Butte Gardens, and Le Jardin have beautiful greenhouses)
Barns (Sundance, the SLC Hardware building, or a family-owned barn)
Tents

Outdoor locations:

Lighting: Outdoor locations usually have the best lighting. Luncheons can be difficult at times for lighting, because the sun is at the highest point in the sky during lunch, and the lighting is definitely not ideal. It’s best to choose an outdoor location that has lots of trees when choosing a luncheon location. For receptions, the lighting is usually good starting at 5pm.

Backrop: There really is no limit on outdoor locations. I STRONGLY recommend my clients to not hold back when it comes to outdoor locations. If you dream of it, make it happen. I love weddings that are done at unique outdoor locations. This is the best way to get a beautiful wedding. Some people shy away from non-conventional locations because they fear it will be too difficult. However, these are the locations that get the best results. I have done a lot of backyard weddings. Although these can be pretty, it is sometimes difficult because there are things like trampolines, swing-sets, white modern fences, and of course houses in the background. If you are going to have a backyard wedding, do your best to choose a location where the house is not incredibly visible, and where the backyard looks more natural, rather than like a backyard.

Here are some ideas I’d love to see next year for reception locations:
A reception in the woods (There are some beautiful woods locations up Provo Canyon)
A reception in an orchard (I know of an orchard that would allow this for a small party of 50)
A reception on a dirt road (I think it would be cool to have long rectangle tables going all the way down the road.. I have a road in mind for this that I think would be beautiful)
A reception in a valley with mountains in the background (I know of a beautiful spot like this up Provo Canyon)
A rooftop reception (I’ve done one like this but I’d love to see more!)
A reception in a super green park (I like the idea of making this a sort of whimsical wedding—cotton candy, bistro lights hanging, etc.)
Under a big tree (I think it would be gorgeous to have round tables surrounding the tree, and lights and things hanging from the tree)

Here are some outdoor reception centers that I like:
La Caille
Conrad Ranch (I recommend having your wedding in the cow pasture, that’s where I had mine)
Young Living Farms (the lavender fields--there is a dirt road that runs alongside the fields, it could be cool to run tables along that road as well if they'd allow it. I know they do allow weddings at the farm)
Sundance (they have some beautiful fields that would be great for an outdoor wedding)
The Bungalow
Somewhere Inn Time
Louland Falls (formerly Rose Sachs Gardens)
Red Butte Gardens (they have a really pretty path where the trees arch over, it could be cool to run tables down that path)
The Springville Art Museum (I would love to see a reception in the actual courtyard. There is a fountain there, I think it would be beautiful to have the tables surrounding the fountain

Details: Details are extremely important to a wedding. When thinking of details, consider how they will photograph. Lots of details will add interest to your wedding. One detail that I feel is the most important is the flowers. I do not recommend using fake flowers, I always recommend using real ones.

Food: When choosing your food, I recommend choosing food that will photograph well. Cupcakes, donuts, pies, hot chocolate, milk, cakes, cookies, and fancy treats all photograph well. Sandwiches, salads, and things like that don’t always photograph well. Also, plastic plates don’t photograph well.. go for brown, natural colored plates. Also, sometimes food is just plopped where works, but always consider the backdrop of the food tables. I would say that food is normally not put up against the best backdrop, so it can be difficult to get good shots of the food. If the food is put up against a good, solid backdrop, the shots will e much better.

To get the best photo results out of your wedding, always be thinking about the photos.. think about what will photograph best. Don’t hold back, go for super unique concepts and ideas to make the wedding stand out.

When Lindsey contact me about doing her wedding, I was so excited! When I first started planing my own wedding back in January, one of my ideas was to have the wedding on top of a parking garage in Provo or Salt Lake. I wasn't able to find one we could use, so when she told me about her wedding, I couldn't wait to see how it turned out. It truly turned out amazing!! I am hoping the next year, I will see even more creative locations like this! It might be a difficult task but it is totally worth it!

Jewelry: The earings were vintage, from a thift store out east for $2 I bought at a family reuinion! They were such a great find. The bracelet was also vintage, it was my favorite piece of my Grandmother's that I inherited when she passed.
Suit: Custom designed by Alex and made at Perfectly Suited in Provo, alterations by Raheem at Elegant Tailoring in SLC. Denim tie and denim pocket square from J Crew.

Here's how they met:
We met 3 years ago in September at Betos, the classy mexican joint. We dated, broke up for a year, dated for a year, and got engaged. I surprised him and flew him to disneyland for the day for his birthday, and he surprised me and proposed. Double suprise, it was awesome. He's also a twin, and his twin married my best friend. Which works out nicely.

Here is an adorable wedding I did this summer. It was held at the Springville Art Museum which I absolutely love! I believe it's pretty affordable, I would love to see a wedding done out in the courtyard next summer. The courtyard has a statue in the center of it, it would be cool to have the tables surrounding the statue. I really love the Spanish feel to the architecture. This was a really amazing wedding. The ceremony and luncheon were held at La Caille, and the reception was held at the Velour in Provo. The ceremony was more classy and elegant, while the reception was more urban, but because of Mikaela's style, everything flowed perfectly together. The reception was inspired by the music video fro Elephant Gun by Beirut. Be sure to check it out, Beirut has an amazing voice and the video is awesome. This whole wedding was just a blast, everyone obviously was having a lot of fun and the atmosphere was so unique for a wedding. Def. one of my favorites!

This wedding was absolutely gorgeous. The ceremony had to be moved inside because of the rain, but it actually really helped to set the mood of the wedding. The doors were left open and the couple stood just inside, so we could see (and smell) the rain in the background. I loved how much this couple trusted me. When couples aren't willing, I find that there are lots of missed opportunities for amazing shots, so I always appreciate my clients that have total faith in me!

One of my good friends, Afton Sandstrom, recently had a baby (Astrid). I normally don't do baby portraits, mainly because I am usually booked out pretty far for weddings and don't have time. But of course, Afton knew to book me really far in advance!

Also, you'll notice a purple ring in the photos. Afton's mom wore that ring when Afton was born, she gave the ring to Afton for Mother's Day and Afton wore the ring when Astrid was born.

I really wanted to go for a "Secret Garden" type look with this shoot. We shot in a backyard, along with teacups, a vintage hand mirror, and suitcases. I was in love with Vanessa's dress, she said her neighbor made it! Her bouquet was made by Christena Buonforte with Petal Play.

I really enjoyed this wedding! The atmosphere was so relaxing and warm. It was a small gathering, everybody was obviously very close. It took place in a small town and it is obviously a very tight-knit community. I loved the colors of the wedding--the green tones with the peach accents. Lindsay and Joseph are a really sweet couple, they are very genuine and kind. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your wedding, you guys!

I loved working with this couple, and I loved their wedding!! Their wedding was held at Red Butte Gardens, I hadn't done a wedding there before and I was so impressed with it! It really is a beautiful location! Hillary's mom is a cake maker and along with making the wedding cake, she also made a bunch of smaller cakes for the centerpieces! The beautiful flowers were done by Amanda Schelin of Branches Event Floral. And the incredibly delicious catering was done by Culinary Crafts.

Camilla + Diogo Engagements

Camilla and Diogo wrote each other yellow letters while Diogo was on an LDS mission. Whenever they'd see a yellow letter in the mail, they knew it was from each other. They wanted to use these letters in the shoot which I thought was really sweet. The little music boxes were gifts to each other.

Sometimes, I just get these ideas, and I am not happy until I follow through with them. I really wanted to have a couple jump into a lake like this, but I had to find the perfect couple that would be willing to do it. I knew Megan was a photographer and that she would have an appreciate for creativity and for doing whatever you have to, to get the perfect shot. I was really excited when they were happy to carry out my idea! They did a great job, and they even had fun doing it!

I really wanted to portray a "summer" essence with this shoot, hence the popsicles.

I've been so excited to post these pictures from Chelsea and Todd's AMAZING wedding.. but what else could be expected from a wedding planned by C-3 Designs? Everything about this wedding was gorgeous. It was held at La Caille, and one of my favorite parts of the night was when I got to eat!

The ceremony was held at the LDS temple, but we only had time for group shots there before we went to La Caille.

And yes, the wedding party danced down the isle..

Katie and Andrew are one really sweet couple. It was freezing at their wedding and I forgot a jacket. Andrew was so nice, he kept offering me his suit jacket! I would die if I took a suit jacket from a groom so I couldn't say yes, but I couldn't believe he was so selfless that he would offer me it. I'm sure he offered it to Katie first but she probably didn't want to cover up her dress! These two are really perfect for each other, and I am so glad I was able to be involved with their wedding. Their family and friends were so kind to me.

Kristi + Scott Anniversary

This is one of the longest weddings I've ever done, so there are tons of pictures to show for it. I loved everything about this wedding. The wedding was at Somewhere Inn Time located in Lindon. This couple was so much fun to work with, and I am so happy with the photos! I hope they are too.

This is the woman behind the decorations, she did an amazing job of putting everything together, and this isn't even her job! She is the bride's sister in law! I tell her she needs to do this for a living.

Chelsea is amazingly beautiful. Just a heads up for you guys, this location is where I had my wedding :) It is AMAZING. It was at Conrad Ranch, about 15 minutes up Provo Canyon. They are a reception center, but they don't normally have receptions out in their cow pasture. I was the first one to do it!

As many of you may know, I am getting married on Friday, June 3rd. I am really so excited to see how everything turns out, to go on the honeymoon, and of course, just to marry my fiance Corey. Today is actually Corey's birthday so I wanted to take a moment to write about him since we won't be doing any vows at the wedding. Corey and I met in high school during our senior year, and have hardly spent more than a few days apart since. We just can't get enough of each other. Corey is the best person I've ever known, and has taught me so much. He is constantly teaching me to be a better, kinder, more patient person. I would not be the person I am today without him. I never knew what true friendship or true love was until I met him. He is my best friend, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

I am not going to be able to be reached for a while while we are in New York on the honeymoon. Please note that I am completely booked until September. I am still taking September, October, November, and December weddings but they are filling up fast so be sure to email me sooner rather than later!

He is going to kill me for putting up this picture.

Christopher Dan and I met in the fall of 2009 at the Utah State library. Six months later, on April 21, 2010 we went on our first date. From the very first date, I knew this boy was a keeper. So despite the miles summer put between us, I held onto him. After three months of dating, my patience was wearing thin. He STILL hadn’t kissed me. I didn't know if he just thought of me as a friend or if I had a “STAY BACK“ sign printed across my forehead.

What I didn’t know then was that he “didn’t want to mess this one up.” On July 3rd, the drought ended. We watched the fireworks on the golf course and went back to his house where we made a fort out of couch cushions, barstools, blankets, and sheets. Little did I know that inside our little fort that night, I would have my last first kiss.

Almost exactly a year after our first date, I said yes to a question he didn’t even have to ask. And despite the fact that August 11th couldn’t possibly seem any further away, I cannot wait for that day to come!

This wedding was like a dream. The ceremony was at the San Diego Temple, then we went to a nearby beach for some group shots and couple shots. I could have shot there for hours and hours. Christie and Brooks were so fun to work with, and I loved getting to know them throughout their wedding process. Their family was so warm and welcoming to me while I was in California. I am so thankful that I was able to be a part of their big day.

Another really gorgeous (and really sweet) couple. I really loved the concept of having a sort of breakfast shoot--with blueberries, cream, and a newspaper. I thought it would be perfect paired with a cream sheet, like they rolled out of bed, grabbed their sheet, and went outside to eat breakfast.

This is a really great wedding to kick off spring with. I loved everything about it! The ceremony was held at the Salt Lake temple, we got a bunch of group shots and a few shots of the couple, then it was off to the ring ceremony at Highland Gardens. I love Highland gardens because A. It has GIANT windows because it's a green house, so it lets a ton of light in. And B. It has a ton of greenery which makes for a great background especially for an indoor location. Rather than plain walls in the background, it looks like you are outside. Jessica did an awesome job on the decorations, everything had such a sweet, soft, vintage look.
